Rest in Peace Edna Mae Durbin (December 3, 1921 ~ April, 2013)

In my 10th grade Canadian History class we had to write a paper on any famous Canadian we chose. I chose Deanna (knowing nothing at all about her other than she was in Every Sunday with Judy Garland - who I was already a huge fan of by that time), so I decided to research and write about her. I became captivated by her just by reading about her life. She was a truly remarkable woman and I admire her deeply. After turning in my paper, I immediately scrambled to find some of her movies and the first full-length Deanna Durbin film I ever saw was Lady on a Train and my love affair with her began and it’s still one of my favourite of Deanna’s films. She quickly became one of my favourite actresses.

I really can’t express how sad I am at hearing the news of her passing. She was a wonderful person, with a remarkable voice, always kind and appreciative to her fans, and one of the most underrated talents Hollywood has ever seen.

Rest in Peace, Deanna. You are already greatly missed.

Jack Pickford (August 18, 1986 ~ January 3, 1933)

“Jack is an infinitely superior actor to me. He has a stark simplicity and directness unlike anything I have ever seen on the American screen. There’s a great sense of poignancy and a keen shrewd humour in his work…I think my brother was a superb mood actor, you know. He didn’t act, he felt it.”  ~ Mary Pickford
